MPP Gélinas: Have the Conservatives learned anything from the home care fiasco?

QUEEN’S PARK – This morning during Question Period, NDP Health Critic France Gélinas (Nickel Belt) pressed the Conservative Health Minister Sylvia Jones.

“The last mile delivery of medical supplies to home care patients is a critical part of homecare. The Minister’s decision to centralize home care supplies and hand it over to her donors at Bayshore has hurt a lot of patients and threatened the survival of small businesses across Ontario, like Boggio Pharmacy in Niagara.

Can the Minister tell the house what she has learned from this centralization fiasco and what she will do to make sure no one is left waiting for critical supplies?”

First reported in the Hamilton Spectator in September, homecare patients in Ontario have been forced to buy their own supplies due to shortages. Those needing pain medications, morphine pumps and needles have been left in pain.

“Ontario’s Conservatives seems more focused on fundraising directives from Conservative party headquarters than ensuring patients in Ontario receive quality care. The home care supply delivery system we had before worked well and met home care patients needs. This government decision to centralize home care supplies with their friends at Bayshore has hurt many patients some of them severely.

What will the Minister say to those patients and families who were hurt by her decision?”
